lntroduction: Zirconium oxide is widely used as a restorative material due to its properties: high hardness, high elastic modulus, low friction coefficient, adequate wear resistance, and low chemical reactivity. Using primers to promote chemical bonding to zirconium is being widely used as a surface treatment prior to the cementation of restorations. Objective: Evaluate and compare the shear strength between sintered zirconia ceramics conditioned with primers v/s Relyx U200 and unconditioned zirconium v/s Relyx U200. Material and methods: 60 cubes of sintered zirconium and sandblasted with aluminum oxide 50µm were included in acrylic blocks. They were divided into 3 groups of 20 samples each. Group 1 served as control and it was cemented directly to a U200 Relyx cylinder, Group 2 was previously conditioned with Monobond Plus and then cemented to the cylinder, Group 3 was conditioned with Z-Prime and then cemented to the Relyx U200 cylinder. To the cementation a special matrix is provided by Ultradent was used. The test bodies were immersed in water for 24 hours in a culture oven at 37 o as an artificial aging method. A Shear machine bond (Siseo Company) was used to evaluate and measure the shear bond strength Results: The mean values (minimum 1 maximum) were as follows: Group 1, RelyX Unicem : 9.63 (5.35 / 13.77), Group 2, Z-Prime: 11.78 (8.32 / 15.71) group 3, Monobond Plus: 13.12 (9.53 / 16.91 ). There were found statistically significant differences between groups 1 (Relyx solo) and 3 (Relyx Monobond Plus +), P <0.0005 and between group 1 (RelyX solo) and 2 (Relyx + Z-prime), P = 0.009. There is no statistically significant difference between groups 2 and 3 (p = 0.141) Conclusion: The use of ceramic primers containing phosphate monomers as MDP increases the adhesive strength values between the zirconium and U200. The adhesive strength is lower when we use only RelyX U200. No statistically significant differences were observed between Monobond and Z-Prime Plus.
