Abstract
Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar los efectos de una metodologÃa de Foco en
Forma en la producción escrita de una postal realizada por estudiantes adultos.
La información fue obtenida de estudiantes universitarios de segundo año cursando
la carrera de ingenierÃa. Estos estudiantes pertenecÃan al nivel A2 de acuerdo al
Marco Común Europeo para Idiomas.
Durante el estudio, el grupo experimental recibió un tratamiento de Foco en Forma
(Ej. La atención de los alumnos fue dirigida a una estructura especÃfica del idioma
Inglés mientras se mantenÃa el foco en la comunicación y el significado). Por otra
parte, al grupo control se le enseñó usando una metodologÃa de Foco en Formas.
(Enseñanza tradicional de la gramática).
Los resultados sugirieron que cuando los alumnos fueron expuestos a una
instrucción de Foco en Forma, su nivel de prolijidad gramatical mejoró. Además,
otras caracterÃsticas como la comunicación, expresión de ideas, extensión del texto,
riqueza del vocabulario y organización discursiva, también fueron afectadas
positivamente.
This study aimed at analyzing the effects of a Focus on Form methodology over adult students' written production of a postcard. The data was collected from second year university students enrolled in an engineering program. These students belonged to level A2 according to the Common European Framework for Languages. During the study, the experimental group received a Focus on Form treatment (i.e. students' attention was drawn to a particular target form while maintaining a focus on communication and meaning). Meanwhile, the control group was taught using a Focus on Forms methodology (traditional teaching of grammar). The results suggested that when students were exposed to a Focus on Form instruction their level of accuracy improved and that other features, such as communication, expression of ideas, extension, richness of vocabulary and discourse organization were also positively affected.
