The following research is a qualitative, descriptive study that seeks to document the experience and mindset of Labor Skills graduates from the Andrés Bello University in Concepcion as they attempt to transition into the labor force. 40 participants were selected, and were informed via email. 18 graduates of varying graduating classes responded by filling out the online form. This study had three main purposes; gauge how motivated graduates were to study, understand the identity and self view that a graduate in Labor Skills has, and evaluate the effectiveness of university programs for people with disabilities The study’s findings show that the graduates with disabilities have a hard time finding work, as they run into difficulties in many scenarios. Many of these individuals mention that people aren’t hiring them, and so they can’t get experience and opportunity. The subjects lack of confidence is not in their ability to perform their studied crafts, but in their ability to find work. With that said, many of these graduates found work initially after graduating, and have since lost work due to a variety of other issues, such as discrimination or the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused problems and decreased opportunities for people across all lines of work. Despite the reason, one thing is clear, graduates are not satisfied. They find that their inability to find work leads to a lack of self-motivation, independence, and autonomy.
