En este artĆculo me interesa explorar el concepto de cultura
lectora en relaciĆ³n a la prĆ”ctica de recortes en dos revistas culturales latinoamericanas: la chilena Babel (1939-1951) y la
revista costarricense Repertorio Americano (1919-1958). Durante
la dƩcada de 1930 ambas revistas pueden identificarse
como ārevista de revistasā, un gĆ©nero particular de las publicaciones
periĆ³dicas de la primera mitad del siglo XX, que se
caracteriza por estructurarse en una proporciĆ³n importante a
partir de recortes de otras revistas extranjeras. Al explorar las
formas en que la prƔctica de los recortes modela una cultura
lectora en particular, el artĆculo explora los contextos de la
duplicaciĆ³n y los sentidos que asume desde las particulares
polĆticas de promociĆ³n, intercambio y colaboraciĆ³n de ambas
revistas.
This paper studies the concept of culture of reading in relation to the practice of clipping in two Latin American cultural journals: Chilean Babel (1939-1951) and Costa Rican magazine Repertorio Americano (1919-1958). During the 30s, both journals can be classified as what I call ārevista de revistasā, a specific genre among periodicals of the first part of the 20th century, in which clipping from foreign magazines has an important impact in the composition of its contents. By studying the ways in which clipping as a practice gives form to a specific culture of reading, this paper explores the contexts of duplication and the meanings it assumes from the particular politics of promotion, exchange and collaboration of both journals.
