realidad nacional.
The objective of this thesis is to develop a design methodology and at the same time to propose a chapter in the NCh1198 standard for designing shear walls in sawn timber for the platform-frame system. Within the most commonly used timber-based building systems in countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan and Chile, there is a lightweight platformframe system. This system is used for its seismic and thermal capacity and for its flexibility when generating prefabricated elements. In the coming years, the NCh433 (Seismic Design of Buildings) standard will present an update. Product of this, it is expected to get timber buildings of five to six floors, this brings consequently that this type of structures must have the technical support to shear walls design. In Chile there is no methodology that talks about the shear walls design in sawn wood for the platform-frame system, so the general objective of this report is to achieve a design methodology for this type of structure. To achieve this objective, the American standard SDPWS (Special Design Provisions for Wind & Seismic) 2015 edition is used as reference, which talks about the verifications and design conditions that these walls must meet for the seismic case and the case of the action of wind. All verifications and construction requirements will be adapted to be applied in Chile. We proceed to make examples using the methodology obtained to verify that they meet all the requirements indicated by the SDPWS standard adapted to the national reality.
