Cerda Muñoz, Marisol Andrea2021-01-292021-01-292011http://repositorio.unab.cl/xmlui/handle/ria/17796Tesis (Magíster en la Enseñanza del Inglés como Lengua Extranjera)This study aims to determine which are the Language Learning Strategies (LSSs) used by students from the Mechanics and Nursing programs at a Community College in Maipú, at the same time; it attempts to find out if the frequency in the use of these strategies and its nature are somehow related to students performance in English as a subject. In arder to carry out this study, two different instruments were chosen: the SILL questionnaire and the 'Think Aloud' technique. The results reveal that students from both programs use different kinds of learning strategies and that at the same time, students from the Nursing program are the ones who show a higher frequency in the use of these strategies. This study also reveals that the use of these strategies may have an influence on students' performance, since students who obtained higher mean seores on the use of LLSs are the ones who also obtained a higher final grade at the end of English Basic 11. Finally, it is noteworthy to mention that this study will benefit English teachers who aim at helping their students to develop language learning. The identification of the Language Learning Strategies used by students at these two programs will allow their teachers to help them to feel more motivated when learning a foreign language.Este estudio pretende determinar qué estrategias de aprendizaje de lenguas emplean los estudiantes de las carreras de Enfermería y Mecánica de un instituto Técnico-Profesional en Maipú; igualmente pretende dilucidar si la frecuencia de uso de las estrategias empleadas y su naturaleza se encuentran asociadas a su desempeño en la asignatura de inglés. Para llevar a cabo este estudio se escogieron dos instrumentos para la recolección de los datos: Cuestionario SILL y la técnica del 'Think Aloud'. Los resultados arrojaron que los estudiantes de ambas carreras hacen uso de distintos tipos de estrategias de aprendizaje y que al mismo tiempo lo estudiantes de Enfermería son los que muestran una mayor frecuencia en el uso de éstas. Este estudio también refleja que el uso de estas estrategias puede tener una influencia en el desempeño de los estudiantes ya que a mayor frecuencia en el uso de estrategias, los estudiantes muestran una mayor calificación al finalizar el curso de Inglés Básico 11. ·· Finalmente es necesario mencionar que este estudio beneficiará a profesores de inglés que pretendan ayudar al desarrollo del aprendizaje de sus estudiantes.
