Research in recent years has demonstrated that drama has a positive effect on the education process and that it improves speaking skills. Makita (1995) argues that dramatic and role play activities are valuable techniques to encourage students to have an active participation in the learning process. In arder to carry out this research we organised it in different steps. Students were trained by using severa! warm-up activities, to enunciate, project their voice and to use body language. After that, the students were shown a video of a TV series in arder to raise awareness of the pronunciation of words, intonation of sentences and the register used by the native speakers. In the next step, they students wrote their own script in groups which they memorised and presented to the class and to the teacher. Finally, they· were given a questionnaire about the whole process so as to get feedback of their perception of these activities. A focus group was then conducted to get a more in-depth reflection on their performance and achievements. The findings from this research were that they were engaged with the activities .The fact that it was a contextualised collaborative activity gave them the chance to share their knowledge and ideas thus learning from each other was a key factor for being motivated to work. The majority of the class agreed on the positive effect this process had on the improvement of their speaking skills and the sub-skills such as fluency, intonation, pronunciation. This made them feel more confident when performing oral activities.
