El Programa de Inglés en Duoc UC, Viña del Mar. Una propuesta de mejoramiento de la ciudad.

Abstract

RESUMEN: Esta investigación se contextualiza en el instituto técnico profesional DuocUC, sede Viña del Mar y aborda el problema de los bajos resultados de los alumnos del nivel intermedio dos del programa transversal de Inglés, en la prueba de certificación TOEIC Bridge. A partir de esta problemática, se establece un objetivo de investigación que consiste en presentar una propuesta de plan de mejora al programa transversal de inglés con el fin de incrementar los bajos resultados obtenidos en la evaluación de término (TOEIC). Por medio del diagnóstico, se establece la siguiente hipótesis de investigación: “El bajo nivel de competencias lingüísticas del idioma inglés con el que egresa la mayoría de los alumnos de la educación media, incide en el logro de los aprendizajes y aprobación del examen de certificación de quienes cursan el nivel intermedio dos”. El presente estudio es una investigación de campo descrito como cualicuantitativa, con dominancia hacia lo cuantitativo. De esta manera el modelo cualitativo solo se utiliza para el análisis de datos, las descripciones y observaciones que implica el proceso de este estudio. Los principales resultados de esta investigación permiten corroborar la hipótesis planteada; además de establecer la debilidad del instrumento evaluativo como herramienta certificadora en el contexto académico. Lo anterior sugiere las posibilidades investigativas en esta área y la proyección de futuros estudios.

ABSTRACT: This research is done at the Viña del Mar branch of DUOC UC Technical College and addresses the issue of low test scores in the Language Certification Test TOEIC Bridge in students from the Intermediate Two level of the English Program. From this problem, the research objective is established, consisting of presenting a continuing program for quality control to the English Program in order to increase the low test results in the final Evaluation (TOEIC). Through a diagnostic, the following research hypothesis is stated: “The low level of English language skills with which most students graduate from secondary education affects achievement on learning and test scores of students from the Intermediate Two level”. The present study is a field investigation described as quali-quantifiable with dominance on the quantifiable. The qualitative model is used only for data analysis, the description and observations that the process of this study implies. The main results of this investigation allow us to confirm the stated hypothesis; apart from establishing the weakness of the evaluation instrument as a certifying tool in the academic context. The latter suggests the research possibilities in this area and future studies projection.
