The present study seeks to argue through various studies on reading motivation, if thematic of informative texts close to the tastes of 8th grade students are factors for motivation or interest in reading, and in consideration of this, generate a proposal to the teaching informational texts at school. We work with an 8th grade of Almirante Riveros public school applying two different samples of informative texts, one with a scientific theme and the other, with an interesting theme to the students' tastes. Later we applied a focus group in order to collect their perceptions of the two texts. The result was that students read the text closest to their tastes more motivated and even applied greater reading strategies in contrast to the scientific text, realizing the importance of motivation in the act of the two texts. The result was that students read the text closest to their tastes more motivated and even applied more reading strategies in contrast to the scientific text, realizing the importance of motivation in the act of reading.
