RESUMEN: El presente estudio tuvo por objetivos describir las características acústicas F0, f1, f2, f3 y f4 de las vocales aisladas en jóvenes chilenos, entre los 17-26 años de edad y comparar los resultados obtenidos con estudios latinoamericanos de similares características. Se seleccionó una muestra de 117 estudiantes universitarios, a quienes previamente se les evaluó la voz a través del programa para análisis acústico PRAAT, apreciación clínica fonoaudiológica y audición a través de audiometría tonal, descartándose patología vocal y auditiva. Se registraron las voces de los sujetos produciendo las vocales aisladas /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ y /u/. Posteriormente, se analizaron los registros vocales de los sujetos con PRAAT, extrayendo los valores frecuenciales de las características acústicas F0, f1, f2, f3 y f4. Estos valores fueron comparados con dos estudios similares. Al comparar con el de Aronson y cols. De Argentina (2000), se obtuvieron diferencias importantes en f1 de /a/ y /e/ y en el f2 de /o/ y /u/ en mujeres, mientras que en hombres las diferencias más significativas se encontraron en f2 de /o/ y /u/ en hombres. Al comparar con el estudio de H. León (Concepción, Chile, 1998) las discrepancias más importantes se dan en f2 de /e/ y f1 de /i/ considerando los valores promedios entre hombres y mujeres. Estas diferencias entre estudios podrían atribuirse a la variabilidad de la articulación (apertura bucal, posición lingual) de las vocales estudiadas.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to describe the acoustic characteristics F0, f1, f2, f3 and f4 of isolated vowels in young chileans, between 17-26 years old and to compare the obtained results with latinamerican studies of similar characteristics. Their audition was also assessed with a hearing test. Thus any voice or hearing pathology was ruled out. The subjects’ voices were recorded producing isolated vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ y /u/. Vocal recordings were further analyzed with PRAAT, extracting the frequential values of the acoustic characteristics F0, f1, f2, f3 y f4. These values were compared to two similar studies. Comparing the results with the study of Aronson and cols, from Argentina (2000) important differences were obtained in f1 of /a/ and /e/ and f2 of /o/ and /u/ in women. The most significant differences in men were found in f2 of /o/ and /u/. When compared to the study of Leon, from Concepcion, Chile (1998), the most important discrepancies were found in f2 of /e/ and f1 of /i/, considering averaged values between men and women. These differences between studies could be attributed to the variability of articulation (mouth opening, tongue position) of studied vowels.
