lntroduction: The fact that many dental diseases can be avoided using preventive measures has been proved scientifically. Those measures have to be applied at the scale of a population, using long lasting education programs with a wide coverage. The aim of this study is to test the efficiency of an educational intervention, using circus as a communication vehicle, for a group third graders in a school of the Lo Prado district in Santiago, Chile. Material and methods: this is an experimental study over a group of 36 children aged between 8 and 1 O, in the third grade class of the Pablo Neruda primary school in the Lo Prado district. The students filled in a survey testing their knowledge and habits regarding dental health before and after the educational intervention, which consisted of four sessions where circus was used as a communication vehicle for teaching them health education. The primary purpose of those sessions was however recreational. To analyze the data, the Fisher test was used for answers having only two possible options, and the ChiSquared test was used for answers having multiple options. Results: The initial average score of the students for the evaluation was 2.7, corresponding to an "acceptable" level. After the intervention, the students scored an average of 4, corresponding to a "very good" level. Discussion: The increase in knowledge about dental health of the students shows that this type of more didactic and recreational interventions can be very efficient. However, for those interventions to actually translate into lasting health habits, they to be coordinated across all the educational sectors, involving representatives and dental health centers. Conclusions: Preventive interventions can be more efficient by being more innovative, recreational and participative. Circus classes is a good example of such interventions.
