Nowadays, cancer is the second most frequent cause of death in the Chilean population, which is why there are many families who lose a loved one as a result of this diagnosis. . The grief faced by family members upon the loss of the head of household affects single-parent and nuclear families in an integral manner, leading to several routine changes in order to subsist efficiently in society after the death of the head of household. For this reason, the present investigation intends to understand, through interviews and stories, what happens with the routines already established in nuclear and single-parent families after the death of the head of household as a result of cancer. For this, a constructionist paradigm and a psychosocial approach were used as epistemological positioning. Interviews were conducted with four people, in which all agree to have experienced a change in their routines throughout the process that leads to this disease, both in the period of cancer treatment and post death, in some situations this change was visualized stronger than in others. In the same way, they perceive grief as a painful and healing process.
