Ever since the conformation of the road managment department in the MOP american regulations in what bridge designing refers, the particular regulation called AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway brigdes, 16th, 1996, which was in permanent examination and every four years it publishes a new version. Thanks to these same studies from AASHTO is that in 1987 the investigations base don another methodology design start, specifically by load and resistance factor design or LRFD. However, MOP still maintain the admisible effort method o ASD for its designs. In consideration to the realization of these studies, is that in this thesis presents the target of compairing the technical and economical advantages, by studying the structural calculation of a thirty meter bridge with tensed beams, located in Los Lagos region, specifically in MaicolpuĆ©, using both regulations. To design the compared bridge models, it was used the Highways Manual volumen III (2014), with seismic criteria (2010), and a model with AASHTO (1996) regulation and the other with AASHTO LRFD (2004), achieving two calculation memories that were developed in the MATHCAD program. The obtained results were the expected at the beginning of the thesis. The designed model with LRFD uses less steel (24.464 kg) that the one designed with ASD (26.799 kg), which subsequently affects in that this method achieves some economical advantage over the one actually used. With ASD method the bridgeās cost is of $406.182.150 (IVA included), while if it would have been initiated with LRFD method the cost would have been of $401.958.540 (IVA included). The importance of these results is that the MOP tenders all its projects and this 1,04% could make the difference according to the economical resource that is expected to be used by the one who wins the tender.
