chica y San Lorenzo chico.
In this article, two religious festivals are analyzed: San Lorenzo and La Tirana Chica (Little Tirana), which take place in the northern area of Iquique. The two festivals replicate the ones that are held on July 16 and August 10 in the villages called La Tirana and Tarapacá respectively. It is stated that in Iquique, the component of popular religion is basic and vital to understand the city. Far from the ideals of secularism, in Northern Chile, the relationship between politics and religion does not walk different paths. A reflection is presented on the religious use of urban space which the groups of dancers make.
