Ítem Exploring the impact of apprenticeship of observation on novice english teachers' beliefs(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2019) Carvajal Heydel, Karinna; Rosas Maldonado, Maritza; Facultad de Educación y Ciencias Sociales; Programa de Magíster en la Enseñanza del Inglés como Lengua ExtranjeraThe present study aims to explore the impact of previous language learning experiences on novice teachers‟ stated beliefs about teaching and learning. The first and second objectives for the study intended to identify teachers‟ prior learning experiences as well as their beliefs about teaching and learning English. The third objective aimed to analyze novice teachers‟ in depth accounts of their stated beliefs as influenced by their prior learning experiences. Under a qualitative multiple case study design, the narratives of three novice English teachers working in different educational contexts were collected via narrative frames and in-depth semi structured interviews. Based on content analysis, it was possible to see that the teachers‟ previous learning experiences were strongly connected to their beliefs about teaching and learning. Their memories were connected to both positive and negative experiences in the language learning classroom. It was concluded that participants had intentions to imitate or avoid the models of teachers and methodologies they observed during their learning experiences. The implications of this study suggest that it is highly relevant for teaching education programs to consider future teachers‟ apprenticeship observation as having an impact on the early ideas and beliefs that they formed during their previous learning experiences.
