Ítem Its influence on EFL teachers when choosing methodologies, strategies contents and lesson plan for training productive and receptive skills in schools in Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana districts(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2015) Brandan, Alexander; Espinoza, Constanza; Lagos, Javier; González Acevedo, Eduardo AdriánThe purpose of this qualitative research consists of demonstrating whether SIMCE, as a standardized test of English, has any influence on EFL teachers when choosing methodologies, strategies, contents and lesson plan for training productive and receptive language skills in public, subsidized, and private schools from Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Quilpué and Villa Alemana. Through an exploratory research, the authors analysed not only whether the aspects mentioned above are modified when facing the SIMCE Test of English, but also what EFL teachers do in their classes in order to prepare students for that test. Data was collected through a questionnaire applied to fifteen EFL teachers who have worked with 3rd high school level students in the years when SIMCE was taken, and an interview to only seven of them. The final results supported the authors‟ assumption, given that a considerable part of the participants recognized having changed their strategies, and revised contents from previous years when preparing students for the test, as well as having increased the training of listening comprehension. This investigation provides new knowledge not only in the field of English teaching, but also in the area regarding the effects of standardized tests.
