Ítem Animated movies: a tool to enhance students oral production and vocabulary.(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2009) Barrientos Oradini, María; Contreras Soto, Amanda; Franzani Prieto, Emiliana; Klenner Black, Daniela; Stevens Rodríguez, Lorena; Salazar Véjar, Miriam; Facultad de Educación y Ciencias SocialesIn view of the fact that we are living in a world that has been taken over by English and technology, the Chilean Ministry of Education emphasizes the study of English in every school as a compulsory subject. However, technology has not been successfully incorporated, yet. Film is a valuable teaching resource dueto the fact that movies motivate students and provide them with authentic and diverse accents and registers. Films can help educators to employ a different teaching methodology. The purpose of this investigation was to implement an unusual teaching methodology in the English classrooms to foster the students' oral production through technology. This project followed the quantitative methodology and it was focused on 8th grade students from the private school named Nuestra Señora del Loreto. First, a pre-test was given to the students with the purpose of measuring their entry competences. Then, five activities were carried out in order to help the learning process. Finally, the same test was given to the students with the aim of analyzing their improvements. During the experiment, the students recognized the words presented in classes when watching and listening to the movie. As a result, it could be seen that 75% of the vocabulary was successfully acquired by the sample. Furthermore, the use of full sentences in the post-test increased 15% in relation to the use of them in the pre-test. Moreover, the use of Spanish in the post-test decreased 50% in relation to the use of it in the pre-test. lt is clearly seen that animated movies provide teachers with an instructive means for teaching English in the classroom. This application is intended to increase and enhance the students' oral production by exposing them to authentic registers in the English lessons. The objectives for this proposal are designed from the requirements of increasing the students' interest in learning and progressing in the target language.
