Ítem Absolute reliability and concurrent validity of hand held dynamometry and isokinetic dynamometry in the hip, knee and ankle joint: Systematic review and meta-analysis(De Gruyter, 2017-01) Chamorro, C.; Armijo-Olivo, S.; De La Fuente, C.; Fuentes, J.; Chirosa, L.J.The purpose of the study is to establish absolute reliability and concurrent validity between hand-held dynamometers (HHDs) and isokinetic dynamometers (IDs) in lower extremity peak torque assessment. Medline, Embase, CINAHL databases were searched for studies related to psychometric properties in muscle dynamometry. Studies considering standard error of measurement SEM (%) or limit of agreement LOA (%) expressed as percentage of the mean, were considered to establish absolute reliability while studies using intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) were considered to establish concurrent validity between dynamometers. In total, 17 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The COSMIN checklist classified them between fair and poor. Using HHDs, knee extension LOA (%) was 33.59%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 23.91 to 43.26 and ankle plantar flexion LOA (%) was 48.87%, CI 35.19 to 62.56. Using IDs, hip adduction and extension; knee flexion and extension; and ankle dorsiflexion showed LOA (%) under 15%. Lower hip, knee, and ankle LOA (%) were obtained using an ID compared to HHD. ICC between devices ranged between 0.62, CI (0.37 to 0.87) for ankle dorsiflexion to 0.94, IC (0.91to 0.98) for hip adduction. Very high correlation were found for hip adductors and hip flexors and moderate correlations for knee flexors/extensors and ankle plantar/dorsiflexors.Ítem Effectiveness of multicomponent treatment in patients with fibromyalgia: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis(BioMed Central Ltd, 2022-12) Araya-Quintanilla, F.; Gutiérrez-Espinoza, H.; Fuentes, J.; Prieto-Lafrentz, F.; Pavez, L.; Cristi-Montero, C.; Cavero-Redondo, I.; Álvarez-Bueno, C.The purpose of this protocol is to provide a new systematic review with meta-analysis using the current methodology to compare the effectiveness of multicomponent treatment versus other interventions for patients with fibromyalgia. Methods: This protocol conforms to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) and the recommendations of the Cochrane Collaboration Handbook. An electronic search will be conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, LILACS, CINAHL, and PEDro, from inception until April 2022. There will be no language restrictions. The Cochrane Collaboration tool for assessing the risk of bias (RoB2) will be used. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) scale will be used to evaluate the strength of the evidence. The Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman random effects or Mantel-Haenszel fixed effects methods will be used, depending on the heterogeneity, to compute a pooled estimate of the mean difference (MD) or standardized mean difference (SMD) and respective 95% confidence intervals for clinical outcomes. Discussion: This systematic review will synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of multicomponent treatment in patients with fibromyalgia and could add important evidence in the treatment of FM to improve clinical practice and decision-making/actions in this field. This new systematic review will try to show the effects of multicomponent treatment by type (endurance, resistance, stretching, or mind-body exercises [pilates or taichi]) and intensity (light, moderate, moderate-to-vigorous, vigorous) of exercise in patients with FM. The results will be disseminated by publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Ethics approval will not be needed because the data used for this systematic review will be obtained from individual trials and there will be no concerns about privacy. However, if we identify ethical issues during the development of the systematic review, these findings will be reported in the discussion of the study.Ítem Georeferenced Environmental Platform for Kindergarten Monitoring Based on Internet of Things and Websockets(Elsevier, 2024) Fuentes, J.; Silva, M.; Muñoz, C.; Reyes, H.; Bustamante-Encina, R.; Gatica, G.This project involves creating a real-time geo-referenced measurement platform for kindergartens, utilizing IoT technology and the WebSockets protocol to enhance environmental information in socially significant areas. The platform displays air quality data on a map and provides Twitter alerts for local pollution events. Tests in two kindergartens demonstrated effective data capture and transmission to a central server, achieving a 92% success rate at distances exceeding 800 meters. The platform also distinguished environmental differences between the kindergartens based on location, proving its utility in supporting parents and guardians in selecting kindergartens for their children.Ítem Imagen corporal y autoestima en niños según su estado nutricional y frecuencia de actividad física(Sociedad Chilena de Nutrición, Bromatología y Toxicología, 2017) Delgado-Floody, P.; Caamaño, F.; Osorio, A.; Jerez, D.; Fuentes, J.; Levin, E.; Tapia, J.La actividad física juega un papel importante en el desarrollo de los niños. El propósito de este estudio fue comparar según estado nutricional y frecuencia de actividad física la imagen corporal, autoestima, riesgo cardio-metabólico y rendimiento físico de niños. Se estudió 208 niños de 11,9±1,2 años de edad, 115 hombres y 93 mujeres. Quedaron divididos según frecuencia de actividad física a la semana: El Grupo 1 (n= 87) no realizan; Grupo 2 (n= 64) realizan 1 o 2 veces/semana; Grupo 3 (n= 57), realizan 3 o 4 veces/semana. Se observó que 51 niños presentaron sobrepeso y 40 de ellos obesidad. Los niños que realizan 3 o 4 veces actividad física/semana, presentaron menor preocupación por su imagen corporal y puntajes superiores en autoestima, ambas con significancia estadística (p<0,05), además reportaron menor riesgo cardio-metabólico y mejor rendimiento físico. Se concluye que los niños con mayor frecuencia de actividad física/semana, evidencian beneficios en su desarrollo integral.Ítem Physicochemical and Theoretical Characterization of a New Small Non-Metal Schiff Base with a Differential Antimicrobial Effect against Gram-Positive Bacteria(MDPI, 2022-01) Gacitúa, M.; Carreño, A.; Morales-Guevara, R.; Páez-Hernández, D.; Martínez-Araya, J.; Araya, E.; Preite, M.; Otero, C.; Rivera-Zaldívar, M.; Silva, A.; Fuentes, J.Searching for adequate and effective compounds displaying antimicrobial activities, especially against Gram-positive bacteria, is an important research area due to the high hospitalization and mortality rates of these bacterial infections in both the human and veterinary fields. In this work, we explored (E)-4-amino-3-((3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino) benzoic acid (SB-1, harboring an intramolecular hydrogen bond) and (E)-2-((4-nitrobenzilidene)amino)aniline (SB-2), two Schiff bases derivatives. Results demonstrated that SB-1 showed an antibacterial activity determined by the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus cereus (Gram-positive bacteria involved in human and animal diseases such as skin infections, pneumonia, diarrheal syndrome, and urinary tract infections, among others), which was similar to that shown by the classical antibiotic chloramphenicol. By contrast, this compound showed no effect against Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enterica). Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive physicochemical and theoretical characterization of SB-1 (as well as several analyses for SB-2), including elemental analysis, ESMS,1H and13C NMR (assigned by 1D and 2D techniques), DEPT, UV-Vis, FTIR, and cyclic voltammetry. We also performed a computational study through the DFT theory level, including geometry optimization, TD-DFT, NBO, and global and local reactivity analyses. © 2022 by the authors. Typhi Tsx and impX genes encode opposing nucleoside-specific import and export proteins(Genetics Society of America [Society Publisher] Oxford University Press [University Publisher], 2006-05) Bucarey, S.; Villagra, N.; Fuentes, J.The Salmonella enterica tsx gene encodes a nucleoside-specific outer membrane channel. The Tsx porin is essential for the prototrophic growth of S. enterica sv. Typhi in the absence of nucleosides. RT-PCR analysis shows that the tsx gene is cotranscribed with an open reading frame unique to S. enterica, impX (STY0450), which encodes an inner membrane protein 108 amino acids in length, which is predicted to have only two transmembrane α-helices. Fusions of the lacZ gene to both tsx and impX reveal that the transcription of both genes is induced in the presence of adenosine. A null mutation in the S. Typhi impX gene suppresses the induced auxotrophy for adenosine or thymidine resulting from a tsx mutation and confers sensitivity to high concentrations of adenosine or thymidine. The ImpX protein, when tagged with a 3xFLAG epitope, is functional and associates with the inner membrane; impX mutants are defective in the export of 3H-radiolabeled thymidine. Taken together, these and other results suggest that the S. Typhi Tsx porin and ImpX inner membrane protein facilitate competing mechanisms of thymidine influx and efflux, respectively, to maintain the steady-state levels of internal nucleoside pools.
