Ítem Exploring the L2 motivational self-sistem of chilean secondary students who show negative attitudes towards learning english at school(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2016) Carvajal Suazo, Pablo; Fuentes Asencio, Edison; Jiménez García-Tello, Catalina; Moreno Estrada, Diego; Gómez Merino, Carol Grace; Facultad de Educación; Facultad de EducaciónIn this case study, the L2 Motivational Self System developed by Domyei (2005) was explored in Chilean secondary students with negative altitudes towards leaming English with the purpose of understanding their L2 Motivational Self Systems to identify the factors that may cause demotivation. This research was performed with 20 high school students who showed negative altitudes towards leaming English in a subsidized school from Chile. The results provided insight in a pedagogical field that had never been studied in this context. The findings of the study revealed that the participants share similar Ideal and Ought-to Selves in a negative manner. These selves according to Domyei (2005) are relevant aspects of one's motivation as the different aspirations, responsabilities and the inmediate environment contact of the leamer have impact on the language leaming process. Aditionally, demonstrating that the Learning Experience spectrum was the one that played the most important role in triggering negative L2 Motivation.
