Ítem Developing EFL-Service teacher identity through visualization(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2019) Marinakis, Andrés; Martínez, Matías; Michaeli, Dominga; Sonatore, Josefa; Gómez Merino, Carol; Facultad de Educación y Ciencias SocialesMany studies show that the development of teacher identity is the self-understanding that emerges out of teachers and that it is affected by the environment and context of each individual. This study examined the development of teacher identity of pre-service teachers that were attending their practicums and pre-service teachers that had not started this process yet. For the first part, data was collected from pre-and post-questionnaires on a 5-point Likert scale, which asked the participants about the perceptions of their Language Teacher Selves. From the results from the Pre-questionnaire, interventions were created to help the participants to develop the Self that was not developed enough. The interventions included the three Language Teacher Selves, but mostly the one that was not developed enough. Then, as the results of the Post-questionnaire were positive, but the numbers did not really tell why the participants had a well-developed identity, an individual interview was the next step to go deeper into the results. The open-ended questions from the individual interview showed a sense of reality and belonging to the profession even in pre-service teachers who were not doing their practicums yet. Moreover, the perceptions of the pre-service teachers who were in their practicum did meet their expectations of being a teacher. Finally, in the final part the implications of reinforcing English Teaching Programme to support the development of preservice teachers’ identity are discussed.
