Ítem Reading comprehension in the English teaching program at Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello : an exploratory study(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2011) Aguiló, Rodrigo; Bustamante, Ricardo; Peters, Camila; Santibáñez, Valentina; Schneider, Bárbara; Magaña, Héctor; Facultad de Humanidades y Educación.The English Teaching Training Program at Universidad Andrés Bello aims to provide its students with quality education in both the pedagogical and linguistic areas. In terms of the latter, tour skills are to be developed integrally to achieve a high level of proficiency in the target language. This study centers on one of the tour skills: reading. The objective of this exploratory study is to verify if the reading comprehension strategies employed in the program (through mandatory reading textbooks) can be placed within the parameters of a cognitive reading comprehension model. The study considers both the standard reading comprehension strategies, as defined by state-of-the-art literature, and the perception of students and teachers of the program.
