Resumen
The purpose of this study is to characterize the profile of students that enroll in bachelor’s science programs at the Universidad Andres Bello (UNAB) between the years 2016 and 2020 by using data collected from the Single Admission System, the Higher Education Information Service, and the Chilean National Council of Education. The results show that there are non-specialized as well as specialized bachelor’s degrees for specific careers that vary in length from two to four semesters. In the case of UNAB, most of the students enrolled were females. The weighted university selection scores with which students entered UNAB programs ranged from 450 points to 700 points, showing an increase towards highest scores in the most recent years. It is concluded that bachelor’s programs provide an alternative mechanism to enter careers with higher demand while serving as a propaedeutic alternative for students with lower scores. © 2022
