Ítem The influence of peer modelling and self-efficacy on EFL teachers move from traditional to online teaching at the primary level(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2021) Fica Ramos, Marian Andrea; Charbonneau-Gowdy, Paula; Facultad de Educación y Ciencias SocialesIt is undeniable that technology gained an important space in EFL learning in Chile during 2020, the year that COVID-19 hit the country. Even before the sudden move to online learning, many students and most teachers were unfamiliar with the use of technologies such as interactive whiteboards, online platforms, even YouTube channels, or applications in order to make learning more dynamic. And even now, most educators are struggling to understand how to incorporate technology tools effectively into their teaching practices. The objective of this study was to understand EFL teachers’ perceptions while teaching online for the first time and how they were influenced by guided support. The focus of this study were six primary EFL teachers in a private school in Chile. The tools used to collect data were observations, interviews, documents and audiovisual material. The data collection took place between September and December 2020. The main findings revealed that the self-efficacy of the teachers, both established and evolving, as well as peer modelling played an important role in the move from traditional teaching to an effective online teaching and learning scenario. This study supports the importance of a sociocultural approach evidenced in the teachers practices after and before the online teaching-learning process during 2020.
