Ítem Understanding an EFL teacher's transition of her digital self-efficacy in using technology(Universidad Andrés Bello, 2023) Salamanca Vallejos, Francisco; Charbonneau-Gowdy, Paula; Facultad de Educación y Ciencias SocialesCurrent trends in EFL teaching have adopted technology for the new 21st-century settings. Yet since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, most teachers were forced to move their teaching online without proper preparation and support. This situation has led to frustration and stress, in particular for the so-called digital immigrants, who were left behind, especially in Chile. This action-research study was aimed at understanding the transition of a digitally challenged teacher’s self-efficacy when supported in using technology in her teaching practice. The focus of the research was on an EFL teacher with 30 years of experience who, at the time of the study, was working in a public technical secondary school in Chile. The EFL teacher and the teacher-researcher to collect the data kept interviews, reflective journals, and a questionnaire. This research study provides insights from the participant's perceptions of her evolving digital self-efficacy in using technology, and how the experience of participating in the co-creation of a digital eBook with a co-teacher impacted her self-confidence, and the development of her digital competence. Emphasizing the importance of readiness is vital, and this readiness should extend to both her own preparation and that of her future teaching aide students. This ensures effective integration of digital tools into her regular teaching practices.
