dc.description.abstractThe present study aims to analyze the investment of adolescent students in their practices of learning language as a foreign language (EFL) and how these practices have helped them to shape their identity. A qualitative style design for the data collection analysis was implemented in this work. For this investigation, 7 Chilean students participated in the participation process, located in a rural area of Chiloé; native speakers of the Spanish language, between 13 and 14 years of age, 4 men and 3 women. Following the implementation procedure, the data extracted from these narrative accounts showed that the exposure of English as a foreign language, both in and outside the classroom, and linked to the adolescent's identity search process, students’ investment in the second language was positively modified through their practices. Moreover, learners’ identity was proven to be fundamentally polished in relation to the language use, dabbling to the point of reaching short term personal goals while using L2 in and out of the classroom, venturing to invest in it and reach their long term objectives of becoming a proficient English user.es
dc.description.abstractEl presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la inversión de los estudiantes adolescentes en sus prácticas de aprendizaje del idioma como lengua extranjera (EFL) y cómo estas prácticas les han ayudado a moldear su identidad. En este trabajo se implementó un diseño de estilo cualitativo para el análisis de la recolección de datos. Para esta investigación, participaron 7 estudiantes chilenos, ubicados en una zona rural de Chiloé; hablantes nativos del idioma español, entre 13 y 14 años de edad, 4 hombres y 3 mujeres. Siguiendo el proceso de implementación, los datos obtenidos de estos relatos narrativos mostraron que la exposición del inglés como lengua extranjera, tanto dentro como fuera del aula y vinculada al proceso de búsqueda de identidad del adolescente, la inversión de los estudiantes en la segunda lengua se modificó positivamente a través de sus prácticas. Además, se demostró que la identidad de los estudiantes se pulía fundamentalmente en relación con el uso del idioma, incursionando hasta el punto de alcanzar metas personales a corto plazo mientras usaban L2 dentro y fuera del aula, aventurándose a invertir en ella y alcanzar sus objetivos a largo plazo de convertirse en un usuario de inglés competente.es
