Resumen
El fuego desde sus inicios, ha sido uno de los problemas más incontrolables por el
hombre. A través del tiempo se han intentado varias formas de poder prevenirlos y
combatirlos, para poder evitar todos los daños que provoca, ya sea por la combustión o
el humo que libera. La manera eficiente de poder proteger los edificios, es orientarse
por lo que las normativas vigentes legislan. Sin embargo aún son muy básicas, en
comparación con países en desarrollo.
Numerosos sistemas de detección y alarma contra incendios se encuentran a
dispocisión de quienes desarrollan nuevos proyectos de edificación. En general son
soluciones costosas, pero se puede optimizar su funcionamiento, desarrollando un
correcto diseño de sus redes y sistemas. Estos sistemas de detección y alarma, se
combinan con redes de extinción, que luego de recibir la señal de alarma, dan paso a la
etapa de supresión del fuego.
Otra forma de protección de incendios, es mediante un sistema de manejo de humo y
aire, el cual a través de un complejo modelo de inyección y extracción, puede disminuir
el riesgo por inhalación de humos. Como objetivo, se pretende discutir los principales
sistemas de detección y extinción, además de analizar el sistema de evacuación de
humos. Como conclusión general, se puede señalar que los sistemas de protección
contra incendios, reducen las causas de muertes, previenen el posible desarrollo del
fuego a zonas continuas, además de reducir los daños producidos por los siniestros.
