el estilo de crianza autoritario en hijos con Síndrome de Down (rho=-0,661;
valor p <0,001).
Introduction: The parenting style of mothers can influence the level of functional independence of their children. This has been studied in teenagers with Down Syndrome. Objetive: Determine the relationship between the parenting styles of mothers and the level of independence in activities of daily life of teenagers with DS. Metodology: This is as a preliminary exploratory study, with descriptive and correlational scope, with a non-experimental, transversal design. Using the Adapted PSDQ Instrument (Questionnaire of Dimension and Parenting Styles) and relating the results with the data of the measure of functional independence (WEEFIM). Outcomes: The sample obtains 62% of behaviors associated with the democratic parenting style. The WEEFIM instrument shows the best functional independence in the mobility domain followed by the domain of self-care and cognition. There is a statistically significant inverse weak correlation (rho = -0.460, p value <0.027) between the self-care domain and the authoritarian parenting style in sons, a statistically significant direct strong correlation (rho = 0.867, value <0.006) between the domain of mobility and authoritarian parenting style in daughters a statistically significant inverse weak correlation (rho = -0.477, p value <0.008) between the domain of cognition and authoritarian parenting style in sons and daughters with Down syndrome. Finally there is a statistically significant inverse moderate correlation between the domain of cognition and the authoritarian parenting style in sons with Down syndrome. (rho = -0.661, p value <0.001) Conclusion: There is a direct relationship between the authoritarian parenting style and the mobility domain in daughters with Down Syndrome an inverse relationship in the authoritarian parenting style in the domain of cognition and self-care in sons with Down syndrome that is necessary to continue investigating.
