Abstract:The rise in popularity of hyaluronic acid (HA) lip fillers has raised concerns about their safety. Objective: to evaluate the risk of vascular occlusion, a serious adverse effect that can lead to tissue necrosis after the application of dermal fillers with HA. Methodology: An electronic search of articles in the database was carried out; Europe PMC, Web of Science and Scopus, where a search strategy with Boolean intersection operators was applied. Results: 1067 articles were found, where 398 were duplicates, leaving 669 articles. Four articles that did meet our eligibility criteria were analyzed; they included a total of 933 patients who underwent lip filling with HA and there were no recorded cases of vascular occlusion. Conclusion: Lip filling procedures with HA have a low probability of generating vascular occlusion in general.
