Background: In recent years, various studies have explained the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and older people. There is still a lack of studies that explain the relationship between atrial fibrillation and depression in older people. There are various physiological aspects of the human body that deteriorate as age increases, and especially the cardiovascular system, for this reason it is important to address the issue, in order to determine the influence or magnitude that atrial fibrillation has on depression, and the different types of depression that older people can have depending on the type of atrial fibrillation. General objective: Develop a systematic review with the aim of determining the influence of atrial fibrillation on the prevalence of depression in older people. Method: A systematic review was carried out based on the PRISMA protocol guidelines, considering primary sources of observational studies, studies in which atrial fibrillation is associated as a trigger of depression in older people, studies that include people over 60 years, studies that have been published between the years 2013-2023, full-text studies, free and that belong to the Spanish or English language. For this purpose, the following databases were used: PubMed, Scopus, Espimonikos, using Boolean operators OR, AND. The methodological quality was carried out using the NHLBI scale, concluding the development of the review in the month of October 2023. Results: The results suggest that there is an influence on the onset of depression due to atrial fibrillation in older people. Conclusion: Through the results of nine observational studies, found in the databases used, it was possible to infer that atrial fibrillation generates depression in older people.
