This research, addresses the need of validating a constructive alternative for an industrial facility, dedicated to the manufacture of explosives and explosives initiators, in this particular case, safety fuse and gun powder. Traditionally, in Chile this facilities are composed mostly of steel structures, reinforced concrete, cement blocks or ceramic masonry, with low weight roofing. In addition this kind of facilities it’s subject to special regulations regarding safety issues and design requirements, due to the danger of their production processes. The Law Nº 17.798 about firearms control and similar elements, and its complementary regulations regarding explosives, establish the bases and demands that this kind of factories must obey. However, its content is subject to the interpretation of who reads it and leaves open the possibility of finding another constructive alternatives, which contribute to reduce time and construction costs, and at the same time keep what is stipulated by the law. This work search’s to validate the use of the thermopanel as a constructive alternative to the construction materials traditionally being used, in the first place, by a thorough study of the complementary regulations of the law mentioned before, the use of technical and economic criteria, and special safety considerations provided by experts in the field of explosives.
