Enhancing oral production of students with special educational needs through the implementation of cooperative language learning

| dc.description.abstract | The present study aims to explore the impact of the implementation of Cooperative Language Learning to enhance oral production for students with and withouth special educational needs to foster inclusion in the classroom. The general objectives for the study intended to identify student’s perceptions of the implementation of Cooperative Language Learning (CLL), and to promote oral production in an EFL context through this instructional approach (CLL). The first specific objective seeks to investigate the positive and negative aspects of the implementation of CLL, and the second specific objective seeks to analyze its implementation in the Chilean context. Under a qualitative and quantitative design and a case study the researcher analized the experiences of seventeen fifth graders of a subsidized school located in Quilpue through the implementation of an instructional approach CLL. The data were collected through a mixed- questionnaire with qualitative and quantitative questions that revealed the results. To obtain the quantitative results, the T-Test was applied. Additionally, qualititative information were analyzed through Content Based Analysis, where the information was coded in dimensions, categories and subcategories. The perception of the students were connected to positive and negative aspects regarding to the implementation and the reasons why. The T-Test threw positives results regarding students´marks which showed a significant increase. It was concluded that through CLL students with and without special educational needs can enhance their oral production and they can improve their inclusive pratices in the classroom with their peers and teachers. | es |
| dc.description.abstract | El presente estudio tiene como objetivo explorar el impacto de la Implementación del aprendizaje cooperativo del lenguaje para mejorar la producción oral de estudiantes con y sin necesidades educativas especiales promoviendo la inclusión en sala de clases. El primer objetivo específico busca investigar los aspectos positivos y negativos de la implementación del aprendizaje cooperativo del lenguaje y el segundo busca analizar la implementación del mismo en el contexto chileno. Bajo un diseño cuantitativo y cualitativo y un estudio de caso, se analizan las experiencias de diecisiete estudiantes de quinto año básico pertenecientes a un colegio particular subvencionado ubicado en Quilpué tras la implementación de este enfoque de enseñanza. Los datos se recopilaron a través de un cuestionario mixto con preguntas cualitativas y cuantitativas que revelan los resultados. Para obtener los resultados cuantitativos se aplicó una evaluación T y adicionalmente, la información cualitativa fue analizada a través del análisis del análisis basado en contenido donde la información fue codificada en dimensiones, categorías y subcategorías. Las percepciones de los estudiantes se conectaron con los aspectos negativos y positivos de la implementación del enfoque trabajado dando su justificación. La evaluación en T arrojó resultados positivos relacionados con las calificaciones ya que mostraban un crecimiento significativo. Se concluyó que a través del aprendizaje cooperativo del lenguaje, estudiantes con y sin necesidades educativas especiales mejoran su producción oral y prácticas inclusivas en la sala de clases con sus compañeros y docente. | |
