Dental caries is one of the main diseases present in the pediatric population, where conventional restorative treatment for children under 6 years of age is a challenge due to their uncooperative behavior, the treatment of these many being unaffordable or inaccessible for children of disadvantaged communities, which is why the application of silver diamine fluoride has now become popular as an alternative minimally invasive treatment. This review will be carried out with the objective of evaluating the cariostatic effects of silver diamine fluoride in the treatment of caries in early childhood. An electronic search was performed in the Medline/Pubmed and SciELO databases, in addition to a manual search in the Pan American Health Organization, Latin American Association of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This review reported 353 records of which three studies met the eligibility criteria, whose results allowed us to conclude that this treatment seems to be effective and efficient over time, being a good option to control dental caries in children under 6 years of difficult driving
