Generally the families ofpeoples with Schi zophrenia do not count with suitable emotional resources to offer the patient an appropriate emotional suppo1i, when the disease is interrupted. As a consequence, both the condition ofthe patient and the quality ofthe family life are damaged and the need of an extemal support emerges. The psychoeducation and the support groups appear as possible strategies providers of conrention and information for the families. The present study tries to elucidate the effectiveness ofthe psychoeducation as a strategy of social support facing up to the abandonment in which these families lives once the disease appears. For this cause, a systcmatisation ofthe psychoeducatives models that exists in the labour with families with schizophrenics is done, and at the same time, an attempt to define the contributions of these strategies of intervention in the work with them.
