Patagonia Camp is a hotel located in a private area in the commune of Torres del Paine, region of Magallanes. Its facilities consist of 18 luxury “yurts” located on the shore of del Toro Lake, all of which have a view of the Paine Massif. It is located 20 kilometres from the “Torres del Paine” National Park, chilean Patagonia’s main attraction. The hotel has a non invasive architectural design, where every detail has considered in order to reduce impact on the surrounding forests, lakes, lagoons and rivers. The spot is perfect for open air ecoturistic activities. The goal of this project is to design a network of trails and ecoturistic activities in the area. For this reason three specific objectives have been established: I) Identification of the characteristics of the natural surroundings of Patagonia Camp, II) Identification and evaluation of the touristic offers of the area, III) Propose a series of ecoturistic trails that include environmental sustainability indicators. In order to accomplish these goals a thorough study of the literature on the area and ground work has been completed. The result is an inventory of the natural attractions of the site and the trails needed to access them. Some of the activities proposed are trekking, horseback riding, fly or sport fishing and environmental interpretation, all of them created with the idea of sensibilizing and teaching the visitors about the importance of preserving the environment. The result was the establishment of five ecoturistic trails, two for trekking and three for horseback riding. In all of them, touristic capacity methodology has been applied, identifying and defining restrictions of usage so as to avoid negative impact on the environment. As a main conclusion it is possible to say that Patagonia Camp and it’s surroundings has the adequate attractions and landscapes needed to develop ecoturistic activities.
