Due to the necessity of establish procedures, in order to compare measurements of friction and texture made with different equipment, or even with the same equipment under different measuring conditions (speed, type of pavement, texture, sheet of water, slip degree, among others.), was carried out the International Experiment PIARC of Comparison and Harmonization of the measures of Texture and Resistance to the Slip. The model used wich has been denominated MODEL PIARC, creates a new universal unit of international measure called, International Friction Index (IFI) which is composed for two numbers separated by a comma (F60, Sp), the first one represents the friction and the second represents the macrotexture of a pavement This advanced degree graduation work has for aim to validate the unit IFI for pavements in Chile, in order to incorporate this unit in the normative of our country and this way to putting our country at the forefront with regard to international units of measures Ixl, such as the International Index of Regularity IR and thus compare the experiences of other countries that have established this measure unit. As a first step was carried out a comparison of the teams participating in the International Experiment and those that exist in our country. It was performed the calculation of the constants of calibration of the team SCRIM belonging to the National Laboratory of Roadways, then was carried out the recommendation for the determination of the values of the unit IFI (F60, Sp) using the texture and friction values demanded by the Department of Roadways.
