Abstract
This project aims to determine the importance of Mathematical Thinking from the first educational levels by incorporating theoretical and practical elements that support this intervention. Additionally, it seeks to contribute certain tools to the Transition Level 2 (NT2 in Spanish) of Early Childhood Education of the educational institution to build up a more unified and systematic work that is sustainable over time. Students are put back in the center of learning respecting their particularities of age, the environment and context where this process takes place, in order to increase, improve, and enhance the learning as well as the percentages of achievement in this area, so that they transcend to the next levels of education that children will face. The purpose of this project, which was born from the need for children to achieve better levels in the development of mathematical thinking through the problem-solving ability, is to gain such skill whilst respecting what is so proper and natural in children. “Playing”, and the ludic and challenging activities that come along with it, is set out as one of the pedagogical principles of this educational level. Through what has been observed in the educational institution, it was noticed that children have difficulty solving problems in mathematical contexts or in situations that involve challenges. It was also observed that early childhood educators tend to provide premature support. For this reason, the objective of this project is "To design teaching strategies for the development of mathematical thinking through problem solving at the NT2 level of the school Instituto Regional del Maule" by updating the theoretical and practical knowledge of the early childhood educators, creating spaces for reflection on pedagogical practices, and implementing formative and authentic evaluation processes that favor the quality of learning
