We designed a computer program which can be used by the directors of Clinical Laboratories as a support in the management of nonconformities. We called our software "Data-TN<JID". We elaborated a general procedure for the identification, classification, registry and management of non conformities - which applies to al/ Clinical Laboratories regardless of its size and complexity - to be used as a basis to formulate its own procedures according to its needs, and a User's Manual for the software Data-TN<JID. We introduced into this software a data base including the most frequent non conformities which occur in the clinical Lab: 28 in the pre analytical phase, 18 in the analytical phase and 13 in the post analytical phase. This data base was elaborated based on our own experience and data found in the literature. Nonconformities were classified according to recommendations of the American College of Pathologists (CAP). Between September and November 2008, we conducted an experimental tria/ application of Data-TN<JID in 5 laboratories: three in the Va/paraíso Region and two in the Metropolitan Area of Chile. The laboratories have different size, complexity and administration. We included a reference Laboratory. Data-TN<JID was used by the Laboratories' personnel using the instructions provided. Previous to the experimental application the authors conducted sensibilization meetings to stress among the Laboratories' personnel the importance of notifying non conformities, and a/so provided training in the use of Data-TN<JID. We conclude that Data-TN<JID is a very useful and friendly too/ which allows the identification, classification and management of non conformities and facilitates the establishment of corrective and preventive actions by the management and quality authorities of Clinical Laboratories.
