dc.description.abstractEste estudio fue diseñado con el fin de investigar la percepción que tienen los estudiantes sobre el uso de la lengua materna en la clase de inglés. Un total de 85 sujetos respondieron a una encuesta. Éstos pertenecían a segundos años de enseñanza media de cuatro colegios subvencionados de la región de Valparaíso. El propósito de esto fue recolectar sus opiniones sobre el uso de la L1 en la clase de inglés como lengua extranjera. En general, los resultados de esta investigación muestran que los estudiantes favorecen el uso de la lengua materna en sus clases de inglés, especialmente para tareas específicas - como resolver dudas o explicar conceptos difíciles. Sin embargo, tienden a considerar que el uso de la L2 en sus clases es tan o más importante que la L1. Al mismo tiempo pareciera que los alumnos están conscientes de que existe un sobreuso de la L1 de parte de sus profesores de inglés. Estos resultados sugieren que, para poder incluir el uso de la lengua materna en las clases de inglés, es necesario que se establezca una opinión informada sobre este tema, para que su inclusión en el aprendizaje de un segundo idioma resulte beneficiosa.es
dc.description.abstractThis study was designed to investigate students' perception on the use of the mother tangue in the English classroom. A total of 85 subjects from second senior classes from tour different subsidized schools in the Valparaíso region responded to a survey. The purpose of this was to look into their opinions on the tapie of this study. Results from a general viewpoint show that the students favor the use of the mother tangue in their English lessons, especially for specific tasks - like clarifying doubts or explaining difficult concepts. Nevertheless, they seem to consider the use of the L2 in their lessons as important, or even more important, than the L 1. lt also seems that they are aware of an overuse of the L 1 on the teacher's part. These results suggest that in arder to include the use of the mother tangue in EFL lessons, an informed opinion needs to be established upan this subject, so that its inclusion results in a beneficia! factor for second language learning.EN
