Abstract: Sleep is a physiological need, if it presents any condition it can have various consequences on the body, one of these effects is the damage it causes at the cognitive level, this can cause memory loss, loss of reflexes, loss of attention and difficulties in diction. Due to this, in recent years it has been possible to generate a relationship between the deterioration of sleep and how it affects the cognition in older people. Despite the fact that studies related to these two variants have been carried out, there is still a lack of evidence to generate a correct and concrete relationship between the variants. General objective: Develop a systematic review in order to determine and understand the influence of sleep quality on cognitive functions in older people. Method: A systematic review was carried out based on the PRISMA protocol guidelines, contemplating primary sources with observational studies, where the relationship between sleep quality and its influence on cognition was analyzed. To define the search concept, the following inclusion criteria were used: articles in which the target population is older people, articles in which sleep quality is associated with cognition, articles in which the target population is older people without pathologies, among others. The research question was based on the PECO framework. For this purpose, the following databases were used: WEB OF SCIENCE, EPISTEMONIKOS and PUBMED, keywords and Boolean operators such as AND and OR were used to make the search more specific. Methodological quality was assessed using the NHLBI scale. The present systematic review was complete in November 2022 Expected results: The main expected result was to validate our hypothesis, in which the following was expressed: Older people who present some type of alteration in their sleep quality are mostly more susceptible to developing cognitive impairment to the detriment of their daily activities. An answer to this was obtained by reading and analyzing the selected papers. Conclusion: The purpose of this review was to verify if there is an influence on sleep quality on cognition in the older people, for this an extensive search was carried out, from which six articles found through the PUBMED database that met the criteria were selected the proposed criteria.
