Due to the impact that research related to female body satisfactions has had, the discourse surrounding male bodies has been relatively overshadowed. This occurrence responds to an issue, as both men and women have various discourses and self-perceptions regarding their bodies, which are interconnected with social construction and context. This research aims to break down some barriers and raise certain questions, reinforcing the idea that men, especially those involved in sports, have a narrative to express regarding their corporealities. That is, to move away from the logic of deficiency and bodily dissatisfaction and instead promote the idea of optimization, which primarily seeks tools for improvement and enhancement of one's own body. In this case, digital social networks are the key element. Firstly, because currently, in communication societies, the digital resource maintains significant prominence. Secondly, because digital networks allow individuals to reinterpret their exposure and identity within cyberspace. From a sociological perspective, this research project explores how men establish a relationship between their sporting habits, the social network Instagram, and the digital image in the Valparaíso region. Through qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews and participant observation, the discourses, behaviors, and perspectives of these individuals are analyzed. The research findings reveal that while digital social networks are an essential element for both the exposure of body image and the presentation of vital realities, there is no inherent need for their use. In other words, the subjects of this research define social networks as a mere component of entertainment designed to exhibit certain aspects of their lives but simultaneously play a fundamental role in the implication of identity and image exposure. On the other hand, the project reveals that another significant finding relates to male bodies and their self-perception from a perspective of bodily improvement, shifting away from the idea of deficiency and dissatisfaction but attributing to it an idea of sporting accomplishment through suffering and submission. The contribution of this study relates to the need to highlight the tensions occurring in the identities and subjectivities of individuals belonging to the male gender and, consequently, the self-perception of their bodies. Moreover, this research contributes to understanding how individuals use digital resources and how these coexist with their realities. Ultimately, it contributes to providing greater visibility to the current situation of male body image to pave the way for new lines of investigation
