The purpose of the present title Project is to introduce and foment the development of the Method of the Finite Elements, indispensable procedure in the analysis and design in Civil Engineering nowadays, in the Andrés Bello University. The equations that define the method were analytically analyzed and two accademic software were implemented. By one side, an educative program of self-instruction was elaborated, educational ABMEF, with the objective to expose the physical, mathematical and computational concepts of the method using the last technologies of multimedia. On the other si de, a set of functions was designed for an application program of the method, ABMEF, destined to analyze simple ,plates from the academic point of view. It's pretended that the students· use these functions to solve the problems analyzed in the concrete design subject before using commercial programs. Both softwares implemented create the bases for the natural development of the method in the university, in addition it creates a problem, that allows to remarkably narrow relation between the Computer .sci~nc~ area and the Civil area, contributing to the students of the Civil mention to deepen in the subjects of the Technologies ofthe Information.
