Historically, social workers have performed the profession in different fields of action. This research aims to analyze the discourses maintained by social workers who work in programs (external and internal) of the DIDECO of Quillón, regarding their professional role in the intervention with families, and how it is complemented from the approach based on in children's rights. It is a research of qualitative design, of exploratory and descriptive type. The data collection technique to be used is the structured interview through a self administered questionnaire. The working hypothesis is based on the fact that the Social Workers of the DIDECO of Quillón, recognize the professional role they play in the intervention with families from the perspective of children's rights, however, they identify that the neoliberal policy influences and limits intervention, generating assistance and a setback of transformative social action. In light of the results obtained in this research, it is observed that the role of social workers is affected by the following limitations: Excess workload, bureaucratization of State agencies, lack of training related to the childhood network, persistence of assistance in family intervention.
