Research descriptive, cross-sectional, non-experimental design was conducted during the months of September to November 2013, the patients of the "Hospital Dr. Gustavo Fricke" of ViƱa del Mar that were in the process of disconnection were included, with the aim ofjudge the impact of the weaning protocol application used in this hospital . Using it in 17 patients, each item of the algorithm was verified in stages, its impact on non-invasive ventilatory support after extubation, reintubation and length of stay in the unit was examined. A 64.7 % breached any protocol item against 35.7 % that it complied fully, which tends to be reflected positively in cases of breach of the algorithm in the aspects examined. It managed to reach concise data on algorithm application in each stage, showing a decreasing importance along its application, assimilating it to an abbreviated weaning protocol.
