The iron mine called El Dorado is located in the Coquimbo region, province of Limarí, commune of Ovalle, specifically the Northwest of the city of Ovalle. El Dorado, that originally was exploited as an open pit mine, it is currently being analyzed for the possibility to change the method of extraction, shifting from open pit to underground. For this change of extraction method to be possible, previous to the exploitation of the ore deposit it is necessary the construction of the access ramp, one of the most important mining labours inside the mine. Since, it is the one that connects all the levels inside the mine with the surface. In the present study there is an evaluation from the technical and economical aspects of the design and construction of an access ramp to the underground mine El Dorado, with the purpose that in a future it will be possible to extract iron ore through said mine. Consequently, there will be an analysis of the different activities of the mining cycles that are required for the construction of the ramp, considering parameters of design, equipment to be utilized, operational parameters, cycle times, etc. The study covers from calculations specialized in drilling and blast, ventilation, ground control, freight, and transport, including the estimation of investment costs of capital that allow to realize an economic evaluation in early stages of the project. The final results of this project were the costs of each operation of the cycle, obtaining a total of USD $13,620,951, as well as the time of execution of the project, which will be of 870 days, which equals to 2.5 years approximately. These results are inside the normal parameters of execution, which demonstrate that the realization of the access ramp for the underground extraction of iron ore it is totally viable
