Los así denominados "tratados de buenas maneras" o "tratados de urbanidad" constituyen una
forma del todo singular en el contexto de la literatura moral. Su especifidad estriba en su indole
limitrofe: por una parte parecen promover valores propiamente estéticos y, por otra, morales. La
pregunta que intenta
responder este trabajo -al hilo de las estéticas de Kant y de Schiller- versa sobre del estatuto
moral de las "bellas apariencias": la moralidad de las bellas apariencias. Este problema es una de las
posibles inflexiones de la pregunta
por las relaciones entre el dominio ético y estético.
Abstract:The so-named Treatise on Good Manners, or Treatise on Urbanity represent an altogether
unique fonn in the context ofmoralliterature. Their distinctive
features Iie in their "border' traits: in one direction, these writings would seem to promote
principally aesthetic values, but in another direction, their airn would appear to convey mostly moral
precepts. The question this work
attempts to answer -in line with the aesthetics ofKant and Schiller- deals with the moral statutes
of"beautiful appearance": the morality ofbeautiful appearance. This issue is one ofthe possible
inflections ofthe inquiry into
the relationship between the realms of aesthetics and ethics.
